چکیده مقاله:

Background: The incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing due to the growing epidemics of obesity. Omentin-1 is an anti-inflammatory adipokine produced preferentially by visceral adipose tissue. The aim of this study was to determine omentin-1 serum levels and its relationship with body mass index, fasting blood sugar and lipid profile. Materials and methods: This case-control study was performed on 70 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and 70 participants as controls. Plasma levels of omentin 1 were measured by ELISA kit and other variables were determined by standard methods. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Results: Patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver presented significantly higher omentin levels compared to the controls (p<0.05). NAFLD patients had significantly higher levels of body mass index (BMI) and triglycerides, compared to healthy group (p-value<0.05). An inverse correlation was observed between omentin1with BMI, triglyceride, and LDL-C (p<0.05), but were positively associated with HDL‑C levels (p<0.05). We did find correlation between omentin‑1 with FBS in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver (p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings showed that omentin-1 serum levels were significantly different in patients with NAFLD when compared to controls. Omentin levels are correlated with BMI, LDL-C, and HDL-C.

Serum homocysteine levels in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Background and rational for the study. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is regarded as the hepatic component of insulin resistance (IR) syndrome, but data on serum homocysteine (HCY) are limited. The aim of the study was the evaluation of serum HCY levels in patients with NAFLD. Material and methods. Thirty-one patients (54 ± 11 years, 8 males) with biopsy-proven NAFLD, 15 with simple ...

Serum omentin-1, vaspin, and apelin levels and central obesity in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

BACKGROUND Omentin-1, vaspin, and apelin are novel adipokines which closely associate with obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the circulating levels of omentin-1, vaspin, and apelin in NAFLD patients and to clarify their relationship with biochemical parameters, abdominal obesity, and high sensitive C-reactive protein. ...

Omentin-1 rs2274907 and resistin rs1862513 polymorphisms influence genetic susceptibility to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an obesity-associated disease and dysregulation of adipokines has an important role in its development. Omentin-1 (ITLN1 protein) and resistin are two adipokine secreted from adipose tissue. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the adipokine genes may affect expression and activity of the adipokine, and thus play a contributory role in NAFLD pathogenesi...

Serum leptin levels in psoriatic patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Background: The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is higher in patients with psoriasis than in the normal population. Serum leptin levels are higher in patients with psoriasis and in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver. The purpose of this study was to determine the serum levels of leptin in psoriatic patients with and without non-alcoholic fatty liver.<span...

Serum alpha-fetoprotein in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

We read with interest the Kara et al1, article showing similar serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels among men with nonalcoholic simple steatosis (SS), steatohepatitis and controls of lower body mass index (BMI), and no discriminating value for NASH1. Following this publication, we performed a post-hoc analysis in a Greek cohort (30 [22 women] patients with biopsy-proven nonalcoholic fatty liver...

Circulating Levels of Pro-inflammatory Cytokines in Patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis

Background: Pro-inflammatory cytokines are associated with systemic inflammatory responses. Objective: To investigate the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1b, IL-6, and TNF-a) in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) compared to healthy individuals. Methods: This case-control study was c...
